6 TH ANNUAL MISS RUSSIAN LA 2017 COMPETITION SET FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 17 IN HOLLYWOOD

10 Russian Beauties Compete for the Prized Crown!

 

(Los Angeles, Calif…March 8, 2017)  The beauty and culture of Russia will be celebrated as the 6 th Annual Miss Russian LA 2017 Competition returns to Hollywood on Friday, March 17 at the Taglyan Cultural Complex. This spectacular evening will showcase the intelligence, grace and talent of 10 finalists representing their Russian roots as they compete to bring home the crown. At the conclusion of the competition, one woman will win the coveted Miss Russian LA 2017 title. The Complex is located at 1201 Vine Street in Hollywood.

“With all the turbulence surrounding Russia today, I am proud to be able to showcase the talent and beauty of my beloved homeland,” says Lika Osipova, Producer/Director of Miss Russian LA 2017.

“We have had an incredible amount of support and enthusiasm for this pageant and what we stand for. My goal to provide an entertainment-filled evening as well as a challenging competition.”

The event has become an entertainment spectacular, this year featuring special performances by international singer Abby Cubey and Season 12 contestant on American Idol Andrey Tsvetkov, a show-stopping opener by Peter Dranga (famous Russian accordionist), and guitarists Stuart Smith and Joe Retta from the legendary musical group Heaven and Earth. The evening will be hosted by Greg S. Reid (best-selling author, acclaimed speaker, and filmmaker).

Celebrity judges will include: Lainie Kazan (multi-award winning actor in film, television and on stage, who received critical acclaim for her role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 1 and II), Kathy Nelson (former President of Universal Music), David Longoria (Grammy Award-winner), Evgeny Afneevsky (Oscar and Emmy-nominated director and producer), flying in from Russia, Prohor Shalyapin (leading Russian singer), Ben Stein (Political and Economic Commentator), Ryan Long (Founder of City Gala), Oleg Frish (multi-talented singer and popular talk show host), Alex Durmashkin (American Russian Media), and more to be announced.

Over the years, this star-studded event has brought out many of Hollywood’s elite including Mickey Rourke (Emmy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated actor), Larry Namer (Founder of E! Entertainment Television), Rich Thurber (TV producer), Nick Light (VP of Sony Pictures), Jeffrey Prang (Mayor of West Hollywood), and more.

The pageant is open to any qualified female at least 18 years old, having a California residency and the ability to speak Russian. The final 10 contestants were selected from over 50 applicants who have been in rehearsals for over a month. The finalists will be judged in five separate categories: 2 presentation, talent, interview, bikini, and evening gown. The evening gown portion will be overseen by Russia’s fashion icon, Dima Neu. Both English and Russian will be spoken throughout the pageant.

This year’s pageant winner will receive the title of Miss Russian LA 2017 and an award package valued at over $20,000 including a bejeweled crown, appearance on the front cover of Fact Magazine, and a five-day trip for two to a location of their choice including Cancun, Mexico, Hawaii, or Miami, FL provided by event partner Popkoff’®, creator of the authentic Russian dumplings that are healthy and delicious.

Samantha Safir, best known for appearance on Dancing with the Stars as guest performer with Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and as a finalist on Fox’s hit show So You Think You Can Dance, is the reigning queen. She served as an ambassador this past year representing the Los Angeles-based Russian community at numerous public speaking engagements, fundraisers and civic events. There are an estimated 600,000 Russian-speaking people in Southern California. West Hollywood’s Russian-speaking community is the most concentrated single Russian-speaking community in the United States outside of New York and consists primarily of immigrants from different Republics of the former Soviet Union such as: Russian Federation, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, Latvia, Uzbekistan, etc

In conjunction with the competition, the second season of Miss Russian LA 2017 Reality Show will air in April 2017 on USArmenia TV with an expanded 24 episodes.
